"I think we didn't hit the floor ready to go," head coach Royce Chadwick said after the game. "I think we had a little carry-over from the Lamar fourth quarter. You can't do that, because that game is over with and we can't do anything about it now.
"Our offense was extremely stagnant early on in the first half. No one was really looking for their shot, which led to some bad shots, so we weren't getting anything out of our offense. To our credit, our players adjusted in the second half. They never gave up and tried as hard as they possibly could."
After Kassie Jones knocked down the opening shot of the game, the Cowgirls rolled off 26 first-quarter points from 8-of-16 shooting and 4-of-7 from behind the arc, compared to 10 for the visitors.
20-percent shooting by the Islanders in the second period gave McNeese a 42-21 lead at the break. The lead would grow to 27 in the fourth, as A&M-Corpus Christi was not able to muster a large enough run to get back into the game.
Camesha Davis had one of her most productive outings since the Angelo State contest. The Desoto, Texas, native picked up 12 points and nine rebounds, while adding a block and a steal.
Shola Adebayo scored all five of her points at the charity stripe to set a new season high, and Mykayla Flores matched a career high with four assists in 22 minutes off the bench. Brittany Mbamalu finished from 2-of-6 from behind the arc.
The Islanders fell to 2-8 in games when they shot under 40-percent from the field with a 33-percent performance on Saturday. McNeese outrebounded the blue and green 39-29 and forced 20 Islanders turnovers.
A&M-Corpus Christi recorded eight steals in the losing effort, as Maddisen Turner, Jones and Flores picked up two apiece.
