HOUSTON, Texas – Tashonna Williams set a new Islander record in the indoor 400 meters as the Texas A&M-Corpus Christ track & field teams concluded competition at the Houston Invitational Saturday.

Williams crossed the line in 59.28 seconds to place 16th in the event and top the best time by an Islander by just .38 of a second.
Other Islander women in the top 20 on Saturday were Taylor Hawes in the 800 meters, Regina Salinas in the 3,000 meters, Diamond Thomas in the shot put, and Sashane Hanson in the high jump.
Hawes placed 17th in the 800 with a time of 2:23.67, Salinas was 20th in the 3,000, crossing the line in 10:26.59, and Thomas took 16th in the shot at 12.95m/42-06.00. Hanson was seventh in the high jump at 1.65m/5-05.00, but withrew early due to an injury.
The men had three top 10 performers in Houston in Angelo Garland, Steven Galli and Fabian Lutz. Garland, who also excelled in the 200 on day one, placed seventh in the 400 meters on Saturday with a time of 50.38 seconds.
Galli took third in the mile run with a time of 4:16.10, while Lutz was 10th in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 8:44.07.
Over in Seattle, Philipp Baar also competed in the 3,000 meters at the UW Invitational. Baar placed 22nd in a time of 8:14.52, which is the second on the all-time Islanders performance chart.
A&M-Corpus Christi will be back in competition on Feb. 12 when they go back to Houston for the Howie Ryan Invitational.
