"The DMR guys ran one of the better times in school history," Head Coach Shawn Flanagan said. "They looked pretty darn good."
The men's DMR placed second in the event, crossing the line in 10:14.05. The team of Steven Galli, Angelo Garland, Will Maraggia and Vinnie Van Puyvelde recorded the fourth best time ever for the Islanders.
"Another highlight was Chloe Young taking second place in her first ever multi competition," Flanagan said. "That was really good."
Young, who set a new Islanders record in the 60 meter hurdles a couple of weeks ago in College Station, placed second in the Pentathlon on Friday. Recording a total of 3,033 points, it was the fourth best pentathlon for an Islander.
Young was second in the 60 meter hurdles portion, crossing the line in 9.21 seconds, but also excelled in the shot put (3rd; 9.35m), long jump (3rd; 5.02m) and 800 meters (5th; 2:39.40).
Garland, who helped lead the DMR, also performed well in the 200 meters on Friday. He placed third in the event with a time of 22.62 seconds.
The Islanders will continue competition at the Houston Invitational Saturday.
