"I thought we came out with intensity and a lot of energy," head coach Royce Chadwick said after the game. "We had to play with reckless abandon on the boards. We were a lot shorter than they were, but our girls did a great job of fighting on the glass tonight. Offensively, we needed to execute. We had to take the bump and keep attacking."
A&M-Corpus Christi opened the game shooting 66-percent in the first quarter, en route to a season-high 22 points in an opening frame. Adebayo led the team with seven points and two rebounds.
The hot shooting cooled off in the second period, as the blue and green shot 4-of-17 from the field. Brittany Mbamalu knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the quarter to guide the Islanders to a 36-31 advantage at the break.
After limiting the Lady Lions (3-14, 2-4) to just nine points in the third quarter, the Islanders took a 14-point lead into the final stanza. In the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter, Southeastern Louisiana went on a 22-6 run, eventually taking a two-point lead with two minutes to play.
"In the fourth quarter, we started to get tight and get complacent," added Chadwick. "We started to back up a little bit, as they hit some 3-pointers and grew their confidence. We had to bounce back and respond. I thought the way we executed in the final minute was the big difference in how this game finished."
Uri Jolivette, who finished with four points, hit a pair of free throws to level the game with 1:26 to play. After trading shots from the charity stripe, Kre'Ana Henry pulled down a defensive rebound with 47 seconds remaining.
Davis, who missed a jumper on the low-block, grabbed the loose ball for the go-ahead score. After a pair of Mbamalu free throws, Taylin Underwood, who finished with a game-high 27 points and the most a single player has scored against the Islanders this season, cut the lead to one with a 3-pointer with eight seconds left on the clock.
In the closing seconds, Jennifer Ramirez applied just enough pressure to force Underwood into a wild, desperation 3-pointer, which missed leading to the first win in 12 games for the Islanders.

Adebayo on her performance in the final minutes of tonight's game
"Honestly, I knew that my team needed me. At this point in the season and in my career, I need to give my team everything that I have. If that means scoring and defense, then that's what I need to do for the team."
KASSIE BEING KASSIE
Kassie Jones matched Adebayo with a team-high 15 points in the win for the third-highest total for the Lufkin native this season. After playing several games at point guard, Jones is back to playing on the wings. The junior scored 15 combined points over the last four games, while shuffling between positions. She is now averaging eight points per game, which ranks third on the team this season.
