We are very proud to be hosting an ITA officially sanctioned fall tournament at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend – The Marco & Co. Catering Islanders Open. We will have UT-Rio Grande Valley, UT-Arlington, UT-San Antonio, Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi participating in this weekend's event. This tournament has been a major building block for our program and a pivotal addition to see our teams rise to the next level. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsor Marco and Cathy Mattolini and Marco & Co Catering. Marco and Cathy Mattolini have been absolute champions for our program. Marco & Co. Catering has been our sponsor every year since we were awarded the tournament in 2010. We cannot thank them enough for their generosity that makes this event possible. Every year, the players look forward to the top-notch food provided by Marco & Co. Catering at this event.
Play begins Friday at 9 am at both the Thomas J Henry Tennis Center on Nile Drive and at the H-E-B Tennis Center at 1520 Shely St. It will run all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday's schedule is singles at 9 and 1 with doubles to follow at 5 and 6. On Saturday and Sunday, the event will only be at the Thomas J Henry Tennis Center starting with the third round and culminating with the championship round.
The team started practice Sept. 1 and has been working extremely hard to prepare for this event. We are excited about our men's and women's teams this year. We have a great combination of seasoned returners and highly motivated newcomers. Every member of this team is committed to extreme hard work and the team concept, and has been hand picked for their character. We need your support this weekend to lift up and encourage our players, as they compete in the first official event of the year. The support of the Corpus Christi community has had a strong impact on our program and means the world to our players.
