Tulsa, Okla. – Vanessa Johnson shot one-over through 36 holes to sit in a tie for fourth place in her second tournament since returning from a redshirt year. The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team finished day one of the Bob Hurley Oral Roberts Shootout at Meadowbrook Country Club in eighth place at 42-over, 618.
The Islanders were in fifth place after the morning round with a 16-over, 304. Johnson went two-under on her final five holes to card a one-over, 73, to finish the round in the top-ten and lead the Islanders.
Ana Paredes recorded an even-par back nine to finish four-over, tied with teammate Dani Bergmann in 24th place. Julia Dereniwsky posted 12 pars, en route to a seven-over, 79, 55th-place finish. Anna Millet-Esteve ended the first round at 24-over, 96.
In the afternoon round, A&M-Corpus Christi added ten shots to its first round score with a 26-over, 314. Johnson opened the second round with birdies on the fourth and 11th, before knocking down a birdie putt on her 18th hole to finish at even-par, 72.
Bergmann posted a 36-hole score of 10-over, 154, after a six-over, 78, in the afternoon round to tie for 30th. Paredes will start the third round tied for 41st, after a nine-over, 81, in the afternoon. Dereniwsky ended the day with a 18-over, 162, which has the Nelson, B.C., native tied for 57th. Millet-Esteve picked up an eagle on the 18th to finish her second round at 13-over, 85.
Three Southland Conference schools head the leaderboard. Sam Houston State leads after day one at 18-over, 594, followed by Stephen F. Austin four shots back. McNeese State sits in third at 24-over, 600. Heather Shake of SHSU has a three-shot lead on the field at three-under, 141.
The Bob Hurley Oral Roberts Shootout concludes tomorrow with the final round in the morning.
