High School Races: Team / Individual
Corpus Christi, Texas – For the first time in school history, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country program will host the Islander Splash at Momentum Campus and the Dr. Jack V. Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium. The three-day event promises to be one of the largest events in school history. After resting last weekend, the Islanders cross country teams will run in the university race on Friday.
"I've been pleased with how our teams have trained this past week," director of track & field and cross country Shawn Flanagan said. "We have performed well in the first two meets of the season and continue to get better with each meet.
"This weekend will be amazing for our program," added Flanagan. "Our runners will face some strong competition, which will help us in our progression for the season. On Saturday, with the UIL Preview, thousands of high school runners will come to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to compete on our campus."
Junior Vinnie Van Puyvelde finished in eighth to lead the Islanders at the Rice Invitational two weeks ago. Steven Galli came across the line in 11th, as A&M-Corpus Christi finished in fifth place.
At the Southland Conference Preview in Huntsville, Texas, the following day, the women were led by Carissa Piñón's 12th-place finish. The Islanders finished in fourth, while running on the conference championship course for the first time.
