Top Performance #1: Nagy Defeats Ranked Opponent in Straight Sets

Peter Nagy represents Islander Tennis and its excellence as well as any player in program history. For four years, the Budapest, Hungary, native secured three Southland Conference Player of the Year awards, four All-Southland First-Team honors and nine Southland Conference Player of the Week accolades, including three season in 2014-2015. Nagy dominated opponents at home events, finishing his career with a 33-2 record in singles matches at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The senior put on a display of dominance at the 49th Annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions, posting a 2-1 record to help the Islanders claim their second title in the event. The semifinals match against Arizona pitted Nagy, at No. 1 singles, versus No. 29-ranked Naoki Takedo, who defeated the No. 5-ranked player in the nation the previous week.

Nagy entered the match after suffering his first loss of the year the day before against UTSA. With upset in mind, he dispatched Takeda in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to pick up the Islanders first point of the match, which led to a 4-0 victory over the Wildcats. The following day, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated No. 73-ranked Louisiana in the finals to win "The H-E-B". The Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranked Nagy No. 70 after his upset victory.

Peter Nagy finished his career with the Islanders with a 66-22 record, which is second place on the all-time career wins list. In July of 2015, the Islander secured his first professional victory at the Slovakia F2 Futures event, and helped his native Hungary clinch a Davis Cup victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina.
