Top Moment #1: Men's Basketball Ends Stephen F. Austin's Streak

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team entered the American Bank Center for a conference match against Stephen F. Austin on Valentines Day. The Lumberjacks came in undefeated in conference play, a streak that stretched back 728 days and 32 conference contests. Against the Islanders, SFA had logged seven straight wins, including a 6-0 record in the Willis Wilson era.

After falling behind early in the first half, the Islanders went on a 22-3 run that started with 9:09 remaining. A combination of great offensive play from Emmanuel Toney, Jelani Currie, Ehab Amin and Rashawn Thomas gave A&M-Corpus Christi a 35-25 lead at the half.

The second half began with an eight-point run from the Lumberjacks to cut the lead to two, but the Islanders responded with a run of their own to extend the lead back to 13.  The offense for A&M-Corpus Christi was able to break the Stephen F. Austin full-court press to set up open shots or free throws from the line, which allowed the home squad to match any Lumberjack run. The Islanders maintained their lead for the final three minutes to secure a 71-63 victory and dealt SFA their first loss in conference play in over two years.

While the offense managed to consistently get to the basket, the A&M-Corpus Christi defense paved the way to victory. The Islanders held the Lumberjacks to 15 points below their season average, while forcing 14 turnovers. Tough defense turned into offensive success with 25 Islander points coming from SFA turnovers.

Amin scored a career-high 22 points and Thomas added 20 points with eight rebounds and five assists. The victory helped the Islanders finish with a 7-1 record in the final 10 games of the regular season and a top-three finish in the Southland Conference for the second year in a row.
