CORPUS CHRISTI – Sophomore Ehab Amin of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team is enjoying solid success with the Egyptian National Team in AfroBasket 2015 in Tunisia. Egypt defeated Gabon 96-49 in the opening game of pool play at the event, which runs through August 30.
The AfroBasket champion will automatically qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, while the other three semi-finalists will go into a qualifying tournament for the summer Olympics. Egypt finished as runners up during the 2013 AfroBasket championship.
Egypt is part of Group C, which also includes Mali and Cameroon along with Gabon. The squad will take on Cameroon on Friday, Aug. 21, and then face Mali for the final game of pool play on Sunday, Aug. 23. Knockout play begins on Aug. 25, followed by the quarterfinals (Aug. 27), semifinals (Aug. 29) and finals (Aug. 30).
Amin went 5-for-12 from the field in the game against Gabon, scoring 11 points and adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 19:30 of playing time. More information about the event can be found on FIBA.com.

Amin was a fan favorite in his freshman campaign for the Islanders, playing in 33 games and averaging 5.2 points and 2.4 rebounds while totaling 35 steals. His finest game came in the win over Stephen F. Austin, when he scored 22 points with seven rebounds and three assists while John Jordan was in foul trouble.
