Top Performance #4: Brianna Brink Earns AVCA Honorable Mention All-America
In the process of selecting individual performances, one individual stood out not for any one specific moment, but for the tremendous consistency that led to her being named the first All-American in her sport's history at the Island University.
Brianna Brink had a number of outstanding individual performances, for certain – of note, against Houston Baptist on Oct. 4, when she posted 20 kills and a career-best 20 digs. Or later in the year against the Huskies, when she tied a career-high 24 kills on Nov. 21 in the Southland Conference Tournament.
But as impressive as these performances were, none shone as brightly as the collective body of work, as Brink became the first player in Islanders history to take home All-America recognition after the season.
During her senior campaign, she started in 33 of the Islanders' 35 matches she played in and tied the Islanders' single-season record for sets played with 129. She also led the team with 471 kills, which is a single-season record for the Islanders, and hit a team-best 3.65 kills per set, which ranks fourth for a single-season in Islanders history. Defensively, Brink finished fourth on the team with 313 digs and second with 71 blocks, including 68 block assists. She concluded the season with 12 double-doubles on the year.
In addition to her All-America recognition, Brink garnered AVCA Southwest Region First-Team honors and earned First Team All-Southland Conference honors for the first time in her career. She was recently named the Southland's nominee for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year – one of 57 Division I student-athletes still in the running for the prestigious award.
