Nagy Ends Impressive Career at NCAA Singles Championships

WACO, Texas – Senior Peter Nagy wrapped an impressive four-year career with the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team today at the 2015 NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships. After making his second appearance of his career at the championships, the native of Budapest, Hungary fell to No. 17-ranked Winston Lin from Columbia University, 6-2, 7-5, in the round of 64 at the Hurd Tennis Center.

"Peter did what he has always done - compete like a warrior and represent Texas A&M - Corpus Christi with class and character," Director of Tennis Steve Moore said. "He gave a dogfight today to a guy who has been top 20 all year and as high as No. 13. Winston Lin was just too good today, so we congratulate him. Tremendous respect for Peter's career. He has brought great honor to this university - putting our name in the NCAA Singles Championships twice and team three times. We will be cheering for him for a long time I believe as a player."

Nagy and Lin traded games back and forth early on in the first set with Nagy securing the fourth game to tie the set at 2-2. Lin then secured four straight games to seal the first set, 6-2. In the second set, Nagy battled Lin and pushed ahead 4-3 before Lin answered back with two straight games to take a 5-4 lead. Nagy then evened things at 5-5 before Lin won two consecutive games to win 7-5.

No. 99-ranked Nagy, the three-time Southland Conference Player of the Year finishes his career in second place all-time in program history with 66 career singles wins. He recorded a 66-22 career mark in singles play and a 20-1 career record in Southland play.

Nagy earned his highest ITA singles ranking of his career at No. 70 on March 24 and was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week three times during the year. In his four years he has earned the honor nine times. In the fall, he reached the finals of an ATP Pro Future.

In 2013 Nagy made history when he became the first player in Islanders history to compete in the NCAA singles draw. Then No. 88-ranked Nagy faced No. 57-ranked Malte Stropp of Mississippi State and dropped a tough 6-2, 6-1 loss.
