SAN ANTONIO - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track and field teams captured seven event titles during the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio Saturday. In all, the Islanders had 23 top-3 finishes on the day.
Ebony Collins ran one of the best races of the season as she took first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.99. Another Islander that excelled on the track today was Chloe Young. The freshman out of San Antonio had a homecoming of sort as she finished first in the 100 hurdles with a mark of 14.76. Sophomore Kirby Miller (12.54) took second in the 100 meter while Ashley Mills finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:19.73.
The women's field event were dominated by A&M-Corpus Christi as senior Brandi Huff won the javelin (37.79 meters) and Omesha Locke took first in the discus (44.12 meters). SophomoreKerissa Wiley finished second in both the high jump (1.73 meters) and long jump (5.09 meters).Kaelin Simmons finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.91 meters.
Andres Salazar finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.67 while Kemar Mowatt took first in the 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 53.76. Sophomore Jackson Davis finished just behind Mowatt at 54.10.
The Islanders men picked up a first-place finish in the 4x400 relays. The quartet of Salazar, Mowatt, Reyes and Garland finished with a time of 3:21.08.
Dustin Smith highlighted the men's field events with a second-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 4.30 meters. Freshman Jacob Sprague took third in the event with a height of 4.00 meters.
The Islanders will return to action next weekend when they host the Islanders Dash on Saturday.
