CORPUS CHRISTI - The Islanders men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their home slate for the 2015 outdoor season Saturday with nine event titles on the day.
Four seniors took home wins in their last meet at the Dugan Soccer and Track Stadium. Jasmine McCoy finished first in the 800-meter race with the sixth-fastest time in school history, breaking a record she set at the 2013 Southland Conference Championships with a mark of 2:13.88. Brandi Huff also garnered the top spot in the shot put. She notched the fourth-best mark in Islanders history in the event with a distance of 13.81 meters.
Valentinas Rudys finished first in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:53.71 while Christoph Hintz took home first place in the the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:26.82.
It was a one-two finish in the men's 400 with sophomore Angelo Garland (48.99) taking the win over fellow Islander Kemar Mowatt who finished with a time of 49.00. Mowatt, a freshman, also took second place in the 200-meter event with a final time of 21.34.
Sophomore Kerissa Wiley set a new personal-best and school record in the high jump with a height of 1.74 meters. The Elmaton, Texas native eclipsed her own record of 1.73 meters she set last weekend at the UTSA Invitational. Another top performer in the women's field arena was Kaelin Simmons. Simmons, a sophomore from Canyon lake, Texas took first in the discus with a final mark of 40.72 meters.
Tashonna Williams took second in the 200-meter race with a mark of 24.87 while sophomore Ebony Collins (58.47) finished fourth in the 400. Chloe Young took second in the 400 hurdles with a personal-best mark of 1:06.94.
Taylor Hawes went for a third-place finish in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:23.52 while Samantha Hardin (2:27.52) and Regina Salinas (2:28.01) took fourth and fifth, respectively.
On the distance side, Regina Salinas and Carissa Piñón picked up victories in the 1500 and 5000-meter races. Salinas finished with a time of 4:46.79 in the 1500, while Piñón took the 5000 in 19:19.08. Alexandria Rossi finished third in the 1500 with a time of 4:57.30.
In the men's distance arena, Logan Pittdman (4:01.53) and Edgar Martinez (4:05.45) took second and fourth in the 1500. Eleazar Martinez (16:19.89) and Jordan Wright (16:50.87) finished second and third in the 5000 race, respectively.
In the men's field events, Christian Habihirwe placed third in the javelin with a mark of 37.70 meters and Ben Clark took fifth in the hammer with a distance of 40.50 meters.
The Islanders men's relay teams finished second and third in the 4x400 relays. The quartet of Javier Reyes, Will Maraggia, Andres Salazar and Ron William finished with a time of 3:21.24 while Jackson Davis, Bryce Johnston, Garland and Cadena finished third (3:21.48).
The group of Young, Sha'Nique Spearman, Farrin Davis and Williams finished second in the women's 4x400 relays with a final time of 4:03.83. Prea Petitt, Kirby Miller, Ashley Mills and Shanice Prendergast took fourth in the event (4:13.50).
"Overall the kids did very well and I'm very happy with our performances," said head coach Shawn Flanagan. "We can build off of this and I'm looking forward to baylor next week."
