DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders Dance Team once again made history at the 2015 National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate National Championships held on April 9-10 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Islanders recorded a program best eighth-place finish out of 25 teams in the Dance Open Division I with a score of 9.077.
"The girls took to the floor and danced their hearts out," head coach Melanie Lowry said. "We had a fall that took us from fourth in preliminaries to eighth place in finals. The routine was perfect otherwise and I couldn't be more proud of them."
In their third straight appearance at nationals, the Islanders opened the competition on Thursday, April 9, with their old world contemporary jazz routine in the preliminary round. The Islanders put together a remarkable performance to record a score of 9.204 to earn a fourth-place finish and a spot in the finals.
"They proved to a lot of people that they should not underestimate us," Lowry added. "The drive and passion our team has to win is going to push us for the next year harder than ever before."
The NDA National Championships are the largest championships in the world for collegiate dance teams.
