HOUSTON – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team closed the HBU Husky Invitational with a third-round 323 on Tuesday to finish in seventh place at the event. Nagisa Miura led the way with a sixth-place finish individually for the Islanders.
Miura shot 73 in the final round of the event, posting a 226 overall (73-80-73) to lead the Islanders. Ana Paredes shot 81 in the third round to finish with a 237 (79-77-81), while Julia Dereniwsky fired an 80 to post a 240 (81-79-80). Both Olivia Lowe and Anna Millet-Esteve scored an 89 in Tuesday's round.
Lynn University surged to a team title by shooting a tournament-best 294 in the third round to finish with a three-round 899 (306-299-294). Lamar finished second with a 906 (297-302-307), while host Houston Baptist placed third at 919 (311-303-305). Sam Houston State (306-307-308—921) and McLennan CC (313-314-310—937) rounded out the team top five.
Jessica Bradley of Lynn took home medalist honors, shooting an even-par 216 (71-73-72) to take home first place by a six-stroke margin. Lamar's Wenny Chang (71-76-75—222) tied with Texas Southern's Kassandra Rivera (75-79-68—222) for second place, with Rivera's 68 the low individual round of the tournament. McLennan's Fabiana Salazar (73-71-79—223) and Lynn's Samanthan Smolen (76-74-75—225) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Islanders will be back in action in two weeks, when they travel to McKinney, Texas, for the Southland Conference Golf Championship at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club. The event will commence with 18 holes on Monday, April 13, with the second and third rounds to follow on Tuesday, April 14, and Wednesday, April 15.
