HOUSTON – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team fired consecutive rounds of 316 to sit in a tie for sixth place through the opening day of the HBU Husky Invitational on Monday at Riverbend Country Club. The final 18 holes of the event will be played on Tuesday morning.
Nagisa Miura led the way for the Islanders by shooting a two-round 153 (73-80) to sit in a tie for 10th place. Ana Paredes followed with a 156 (79-77) to place 18th, with Julia Dereniwsky in 29th at 160 (81-79). Olivia Lowe posted a 163 (83-80), while Anna Millet-Esteve delivered a 170 (88-82).
Lamar leads the team competition through the opening two rounds after scoring a 599 (297-302) through the first day. Lynn University is just six strokes back at 605 (306-299), while Sam Houston State sits in third with a 613 (306-307). Host Houston Baptist (311-303—614) placed fourth through the opening day, while McLennan Community College (313-314—627) rounded out the top five.
Lynn's Jessica Bradley (71-73) and McLennan's Fabiana Salazar (73-71) each shot even par for the first 36 holes to sit atop the individual leaderboard. Lamar's Wenny Chang (71-76—147) is alone in third, just one stroke clear of SHSU's Sarah Black (71-77—148). Three players are tied for fifth at the event with a two-round 150.
The third and final round will commence on Tuesday morning at Riverbend CC.
