Jordan Named Finalist for Lou Henson Award

CORPUS CHRISTI – Senior guard John Jordan of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team has been named a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I by CollegeInsider.com. As a finalist for the award, Jordan has also been named to the Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America Team by the website.

"This is a tremendous honor for John," head coach Willis Wilson said. "To be a finalist for this award is a huge accomplishment and we couldn't be prouder. He has meant so much to the progress of our program over the last four years. To think about how much John has grown in the last four years, as both a player and a leader, he has gone from a quiet kid into a mature young man. I'm so proud to have had him represent our program."

Jordan is one of three Southland players to have been featured on the team, being joined by SLC Player of the Year Thomas Walkup of Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State's Jalan West. Other prominent finalists include Wichita State's Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet, Gonzaga's Kevin Pangos and Northern Iowa's Seth Tuttle.

Jordan capped off his tenure in an Islanders uniform by setting new personal bests in points (532), assists (178), steals (63), minutes (1,220) and field goals (167). His marks for minutes and assists both set new school records, while his 63 steals were third in Islanders history and his 532 points were fifth. In assists, it marked the fourth time in as many years that Jordan has broken the school record, as he owns the top four assist campaigns in Islanders lore.

His four-year career saw him set a multitude of school records, including points (1,576), assists (652), steals (182), minutes (4,339), free throws made (559), free throws attempted (883), games played (126) and games started (121). He also finished in the school's all-time top five in rebounds (5th, 519) and field goals made (2nd, 492).

The Houston native led the Islanders to back-to-back appearances in the College Insider Tournament, where the team earned its first postseason win (vs. Northern Colorado in 2014) and hosted a postseason game for the first time (vs. Kent State in 2015). The Islanders improved their winning percentage in each of Jordan's four years, and this season collected the first 20-win season for the program since 2006-07.
