HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team carded a first-round 332 on a foggy day at the 2015 Bearcat Spring Classic, hosted by the University of Cincinnati. The event was played at the Los Colinas Course at the Mission Inn Resort, having been moved from Orlando due to a scheduling conflict.
Play was delayed two hours in the morning due to heavy fog, and once it subsided the players took to the course in tough conditions. Memphis led the way with a 298, but the Tigers and second-place North Dakota State (303) were the only teams to stay within 20 strokes of par. Seton Hall, host Cincinnati and Seminole State each shot 312 to finish in a three-way tie for third place after the first day.
Memphis' Emily Goldenstein was the individual leader, as the only player on day one to post a score in the red, carding a two-under 70 for the round. Bradley's Danielle Lemek and NDSU's Alex Schmid both delivered an even-par 72 to sit in a tie for second. Sydney Legacy of Seminole State fired a 73 to sit in fourth, while Natalie Roth of NDSU rounded out the top five with a 74.
For the Islanders, Anna Millet-Esteve led the way with an 81 in the first round, while Olivia Lowe was just one stroke back with an 82. Julia Dereniwsky delivered an 83 for the Islanders, while Ana Paredes and Nagisa Miura each shot 86 in the opening 18 holes.
Round two of the Bearcat Spring Classic is slated to tee off on Saturday, March 21, with play scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available on BirdieFire.com, and updates will be provided on Twitter as they become available.
