LAKE CHARLES, La. - McNeese St. picked up its fourth consecutive win, as the Cowboys were
able to shut down the Islanders' offensive attack in an 8-0, nonconference win at Cowboys Diamond Monday night.
Cowboys outfielder Lucas Quary hit his fourth and fifth home run in the last four games, carrying the home squad to the victory.
The Islanders (10-7, 2-1 SLC) just could not get anything going as fourth-best pitching staff in the Southland Conference gave up just four hits on their home field. McNeese would outhit the Islanders 9-4 on the night and shutout the Islanders offense for the first time this season.
It didn't take long for the Cowboys (15-6, 5-1 SLC) to get on the scoreboard, jumping on top 2-0 in the second inning on a Quary homer to left field.
McNeese St. would continue to add on to their lead in the fifth inning, scoring four runs. Each of the runs came with two outs for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys added two more in the seventh as Quary connected on a 1-0 fastball sent to left center for his second homer of the contest.
McNeese would reach base via the walk eight times throughout the ball game.
The Islanders would reach third base only one time in the game, as Kyle Danford drew a walk and advanced the second on a fielders choice before scampering to third in the fourth inning on a wild pitch.
Third baseman Dawson Yates and freshman catcher Scott Balfantz each finished 1-for-2 at the plate on the day.
Sophomore Devin Skapura got the start for the Islanders, going four complete innings and giving up two runs on four hits as he falls to 1-2 on the year. In all the Islanders would use a season-high seven pitchers throughout the contest.
