CORPUS CHRISTI – Former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer player Audrey Baldwin has signed a professional contract with Keflevik IF in Iceland. The goalkeeper is slated to start her professional career on March 15.
"I'm so happy for Audrey on signing with Keflevik," head coach Shanna Caldwell said. "She's one of the most dedicated and passionate players I've had the chance to work with over the years. Audrey's willingness to take risks has paid off and I know she will continue to represent herself and the Islanders with class while playing in Iceland."
Last year, she played professionally in Barcelona, but was not under contract with the league.
Baldwin played just one year with the Islanders after transferring from Arkansas State, but it was a good one, as the Forest Hill, Md., native made 128 saves in her only season for A&M-Corpus Christi, a total that led the Southland Conference in 2013. She posted a .744 save percentage and a 2.49 goals against average on the year, earning the program's first ever win, over UTSA, and a shutout victory against McNeese State.
She was also named the Islanders' Female Athlete of the Year in 2013-14 after posting a 4.0 GPA in her time at the Island University.
The Islanders are in the midst of their spring schedule, and will be in action next at Dugan Stadium with exhibitions against Texas-Pan American (March 28) and Incarnate Word (March 29).
