Baar Takes Third at San Antonio Marathon

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After training during the fall in preparation for track & field season, senior Philip Baar recorded a third-place finish at the San Antonio Rock and Roll Half Marathon with a time of 1:06.39.

Baar, a native of Schwerin, Germany, led the Islanders cross country team in 2014 with four top-five finishes during the season, including a first-place performance at the Islanders Splash and a third-place finish at the Southland Conference Championship.

The graduate student did not have eligibility in cross country this season, but will put on the blue and green uniform this spring after redshirting in track & field last year.

Baar was not the only Islander to have great success this weekend in a marathon. Anita Quirino who ran for the Islanders from 2002 to 2006 qualified for the United States Olympic Marathon Trails with a 2:41.43 at the California International Marathon.

Quirinio set the 10,000 meter record during her senior season in 2005-06 at the Mt. SAC Relays with a time of 36:46.18
