FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore Brittany Gilpin has been named to the Southland Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team for the 2015 season.
Gilpin is the only Islander to garner the prestigious honor in 2015, which is voted upon by the conference head coaches and sports information directors. Student-athletes must have a 3.0 or greater cumulative GPA and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions in order to be eligible.
"I'm very happy for Brittany and proud to see her recognized on the Southland All-Academic team," said head coach Tony Graystone. "She is truly a model student-athlete, and someone who is just as good in the classroom as she in on the court. Brittany sets a great example every day and does everything she can to be a great Islander."
A psychology major, Gilpin had a breakout season on the court for the Islanders and was a major part in their undefeated Southland run. The sophomore registered 265 kills to finish third on the team and lead the Islanders block with 96 total rejections. Her on court performance led to a First-Team All-Southland Conference selection in November.
Gilpin's recognition marks the fourth consecutive season an Islander has earned First-Team All-Academic honors from the Southland. The All-Academic selection is the first for Gilpin as 2015 marks the first time she was eligible for the award.
