CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – As fall baseball winds down, it has brought a busy couple of weeks to the Island as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has hosted its MLB Scout Day and prepares for the Islanders Fall World Series.
After working hard over the past month, the Islanders will play their three-game Fall World Series at Chapman Field beginning Friday, Oct. 30, at 3:00 p.m. From there, the blue and green will finish off the series with game two Saturday at noon and game three on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m.
The Fall World Series will be the first chance to check out the Islanders 2016, who welcome 20 newcomers to the fold after appearing in the Southland Conference semifinals last season. The three-game series is open to the public and free of charge.
MLB SCOUT DAY
The Islanders hosted their annual MLB Scout Day on Thursday as 22 major league scouts were in attendance at Chapman Field. It was yet another wildly successful scout day as Islanders excelled in every facet of the event.
Six Islanders ran a sub-6.8 second 60-yard dash in the workout portion before the blue and green moved into the live game simulation. Eight draft-eligible Islanders took the mound to showcase their repertoire with five Islanders hurlers breaking the 90-mph barrier.
Last season, a pair of Islanders signed professional contracts as Trevor Belicek was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 16th round, making him the second-highest draft pick in school history. Islanders reliever Jacob Dorris signed a free-agent contract with the Houston Astros and finished the season with Double-A Coprus Christi Hooks.
HALLOWEEN GAME
With the spookiest holiday just around the corner, Islanders baseball is excited to announce the return of its Halloween Game, slated for Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Chapman Field. This season, Islanders softball will join in the festivities which include a bounce house, face painting and, of course, candy.
Everyone is invited to the Island for a night of free family fun as the Islanders take the field in their best Halloween costumes. Don't miss your chance to meet the Islanders baseball and softball teams and be sure to wear your favorite costume to join in the fun.
