Louisville, Ky. – Six members of the 2015 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Division I Scholar-Athletes. Aspen Auger, Katie Blanar, Alyson Bressie, Mackinzee Griebel, Liz Carter and Dani Tefft garnered the prestigious honors for their work in the classroom.
"We take a lot of pride in academics and the work we put in off the field in the classroom," said head coach Stephanie Hughes. "As a coach, having great student-athletes who take a vested interest in their degrees makes my job so much easier. This is a well-deserved honor and we are very proud of these students."
In order to be named a NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must post a 3.5 GPA or higher for the 2014-15 academic year. The NFCA named 5,493 student-athletes across the country from NCAA Division I to high school levels to the national list.
In June, Auger, Blanar, Bressie, Griebel, Carter and Tefft received recognition for their academic success during the spring semester, as they were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The Islanders were among six programs from the Southland Conference to receive the recognition. Central Arkansas and Houston Baptist both had nine student-athletes on the list. The University of the Incarnate Word had eight, while A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar each had six players earn the laurels. Southeastern Louisiana recorded two athletes on the list.
