Top Moment #4: Islanders Baseball Rallies for Walk-Off Win Over Lamar

Following a series sweep on the road against Abilene Christian, the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi baseball team faced off against Lamar on May 10 with the intent to continue their success in the final three-game home series of the season and stay ahead of Sam Houston State for first place in the league.

The first game featured a sixth inning three-run rally by the Islanders that lifted them past the Cardinals to a 5-2 victory. Jordan LeeBrandon Tierney and Russell Vaughan each had two hits, while Lee scored twice.

Trevor Belicek was outstanding in the second game, as he didn't allow a runner past first base in all nine innings of work. Cardinal's pitcher Chase Angelle allowed only one runner to go past first in the first nine innings he threw.

Lamar kicked it into gear with a two-out rally against Jacob Dorris in the 10th that plated Lamar's Jason Eckols to snag the first lead of the game.

Angelle returned in the bottom of the 10th for Lamar to retire Cody Stephens before Vaughan ignited the Islanders' bats. The senior sent a line drive through center field all the way to the wall for a triple. Dominic Lopez kept the rally going with a grounder that allowed pinch-runner Jacob Hubert to beat the tag out at home and tie the score, 1-1.  Zack Gibson's single that followed put pinch-runner Brandon Guillford on third as Dawson Yates stepped up to the plate.

The freshman lifted a ball over the drawn-in outfield for a walk-off single to score Guillford and gain a doubleheader sweep that sent the Islanders into a frenzied celebration that carried off the field and into the headlines.
