Track & Field Travels To UTSA for Texas Challenge

FULL SCHEDULE | HEAT SHEETS

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi track and field teams will compete in their first outdoor meet away from home this weekend, participating in the UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational on March 21-22.

However, most of the Islanders will be in action during Saturday's events, as the only A&M – Corpus Christi competitor on Friday will be Isabella Baptiste in the women's heptathlon. The event is scheduled to start at noon with the first four events of the seven-event competition to be completed in day one of action.

Saturday's events will get underway with the conclusion of the multi events, as the final three events of heptathlon will get started at 9:30 a.m.

The rest of the field and running events will start at noon. One of the first field events will be the women's high jump, which features Kerrisa Wiley who is currently first in the Southland Conference with a clearance of 1.66m (5' 5¼").

The races will be led with the women's 1500m, where the Islanders boast the top two times in the conference with Regina Salinas sitting in first with her 4:47.60 and Brandie Garcia right behind with a time of 4:54.21 in the Islanders Open.

Also with the top times in the Southland through the first week of competition are Ashley Rosebrough, who has the top time in the 400m at 57.09, and Paul Hansel, leading the way in the 800m, clocking a time of 1:56.21 a week ago.

The final races of the invitational are scheduled to get underway at 3:50 p.m. with the women's 4x400m relay followed by the men's at 4 p.m. Both teams for A&M – Corpus Christi rank third in the league in the event.

For a full schedule of the events, as well as heat sheets for the meet, see the links above. Due to technical difficulties there will be no live stats for this weekend's action.

Much like the Islanders, the Roadrunners are hosting their first meet in quite a while, as they also boast a brand new facility. This invitational will be the first at the Park West Athletics Complex.

With this being a Texas Challenge, all six schools are from the Lone Star State, as Houston, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech join the Islanders and host-school UTSA at the meet.
