MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team shot a 642 (324-318) in the opening two rounds of the Blue Raider Invitational, hosted by Middle Tennessee State. The Islanders sit in 16th place after the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event at the Old Fort Golf Club.
"We knew coming to this event that it was going to be a challenge, with the level of competition we are facing," head coach Carol Blackmar said. "Still, I was a little disappointed that we left a lot of strokes out on the course. We had the opportunity to do better than we did today, and I'm confident that our final round will be a step forward."
Host MTSU leads the team competition after the opening day, sitting three strokes ahead of Arkansas-Little Rock with a 589 to UALR's 592. Oral Roberts sits in third with a 594, while Missouri State (600) and Central Arkansas (606) round out the top five.
Western Kentucky's Ellinor Haag leads the individual competition with a one-over-par 145, placing her one stroke ahead of a four-way tie for second. MTSU's Allie Knight, Austin Peay's Jessica Cathey, Tennessee Tech's Megan Williamson and UALR's Hannah Word each shot 146 on day one.
Sophomore Ana Paredes led the Islanders with a 158, delivering 79 in each of the first two rounds. Freshman Anna Millet-Esteve was just behind with a 161 (82-79), with classmates Nagisa Miura (82-80) and Olivia Lowe (82-80) each delivering 162. Julia Dereniwsky posted a 163 (81-82) on Monday.
