COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior Peter Nagy competed in the round of 32 of singles play today in front of a big crowd at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships at Texas A&M. Nagy gave the No. 2 seed of Harrison Adams of Texas A&M a strong battle in the third round but eventually fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to wrap play.
"This was a great college tennis match in a great atmosphere," Director of Tennis Steve Moore said. "I thought both guys played and competed at a very high level. They really battled. Give credit to Harrison Adams, he delivered some huge shots at those key no-advantage points. He took risks and really executed.
"Peter was right there and had several chances to pull ahead. He competed very well, we just have to execute better in those big moments."
Adams is ranked No. 11 in the ITA singles rankings, and earned All-SEC First Team honors last season. In the first set, Nagy jumped out to a 3-2 lead, before the next three games went to no-advantage and Adams clinched them all. The second set was equally as close with Adams winning no-advantage at 4-4 to hold serve to go up 5-4, before winning the match, 6-4.
The Budapest, Hungary native started play on Saturday after receiving a first-round bye. In his first match of the regional, he posted a three-set win over Max Montague of Texas A&M, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1, on Saturday to advance to today's round of 32.
