The Barcelona, Spain native has advanced to the round of 32 of singles play after clinching both of her singles matches today.

Along with Vives, junior Celia Rodriguez and freshman Jelena Dzinic secured their opening round matches in straight sets to advance to the round of 64 in singles play.

"I was very pleased with the way all three girls competed today," Director of Tennis Steve Moore said. "They fought very hard and showed a lot of heart. They all played very focused first round matches."

Vives started things off with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Rice's Stephanie Nguyen in the opening round. In the second round, Vives topped Katia Stavroulaki of Texas-Pan American, 6-3, 7-6 (5). She will take on No. 4 seed Rachel Pierson of Texas A&M tomorrow at 10:15 a.m.

"Judit has improved a lot and has added some key facets to her game," Moore said. "She is playing at a high level and we are excited for her match tomorrow."
