LIVE OAK, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's cross country team finished first overall at the Incarnate Word Invitational while the women took second. The event was highlighted by poor track conditions as rain moved through the San Antonio area prior to the event.
Sophomore Edgar Martinez fought through the tough conditions and ran a career-best 24:55.5 in the 8k race en route to a third-place finish. Lytle, Texas native, Cesar Gonzalez was the only other top-10 runner for the Islanders men as he finished eighth with a time of 25:05.8.
Steven Galli (25:28.3) was the third runner to cross the finish line for the Islanders as he finished the event in 15th while sophomore Daniel Guerrero (25:33.8) finished 17th.
Regina Salinas paced the Islander women as she finished the 5k ninth with a time of 23:30.9. Freshman Liz Romo (24:07.0) took 17th while Spring Branch, Texas native, Taylor Hawes (24:07.6) placed 19th for the Islanders.
The team will be back in action next Friday, as they head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the University of Alabama Invitational.
