Top Performance #2: Roger De La Cruz Wins SLC Indoor High Jump Title

Roger De La Cruz broke history for the second time during the 2013 Islanders track and field indoor season and accomplished a feat no other Islander has done before. The San Antonio, Texas, native clinched first place in the men's high jump on Feb. 23 at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships in Norman, Okla.

The senior led the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's and women's track and field teams on the final day of competition with a clearance of 2.10m (6' 10¾"), to win the indoor high jump title at Mosier Indoor Track.

After winning the indoor title he finished in second place in the high jump at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round. Throughout his senior season he garnered three titles in the high jump and recorded six top-five finishes with four of them coming during the outdoor season.

After four years of competition as an Islander, De La Cruz will leave his mark as the top high jumper in Texas A&M - Corpus Christi history. He holds the outdoor school record with a mark of 2.15m (7' 0½"), set at the 2012 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships and an indoor school-record of 2.14m (7' 0¼"), set at the Red Raider Open in 2013.
