FINAL RESULTS
LAKE CHARLES, La. – Roger De La Cruz and Patrick Kimeli both wrapped their Islanders career with second-place finishes and helped the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's track and field team to their best finish since 2008 at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. The men's team earned 54.5 points to place eighth while the women's team finished 10th with 26 points on the final day of competition at the McNeese Cameron Communications Track and Field Complex.
"I thought our men performed pretty well today," Head Coach Shawn Flanagan said. "On the women's side, there were a couple of good things, but we have some work to do. With our new track coming and our recruiting class coming in, I think we are going to see an improvement across the board on both teams."
De La Cruz earned a runner-up finish in the men's high jump. He cleared a mark of 2.05m (6-08.75) to earn eight points while Quincy Obeng earned an eight-place finish with a clearance of 1.95m (6-04.75).
Kimeli placed second in the men's 1500m finals with a time of 3:52.28 while Daniel Barlow and Paul Hansel finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place. Barlow clocked a personal-best time of 3:57.84 while Hansel finished with a time of 3:59.32. Abel Koskey placed 11th with a time of 4:16.85.
The Islanders garnered three of the top five spots in the men's 800m. Brandon Lacy paced the Islanders in third place with a time of 1:54.48 while Valentinas Rudys placed fourth with a time of 1:54.90. Cordarius Edmondson followed in fifth place with a time of 1:54.98.
William Scott had a successful day, finishing fifth in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 53.79 and he helped both relay teams to season-best times. He led the men's 4x100 meter relay team to a season-best time of 41.90. Scott was the leadoff leg followed by Eric July, Michael Diamond and David Carrillo. He also teamed up with Carrillo, Edmondson and Bryce Johnston in the 4x400 meter relay team and clocked a season-best time of 3:17.35.
Philipp Baar crossed the line in sixth place in the men's 5k with a time of 14:47.89 while Cecilia Jones clocked a seventh-place finish in the women's 5k with a time of 18:10.87.
Jasmine Boutte highlighted the women's team with a third-place finish in the women's 800m finals. The sophomore finished with a time of 2:13.97 while Ashley Mills had a career day with a personal-best time of 2:17.12 to place sixth, which is good for ninth all-time in school history. The freshman improved her personal-best time of 2:18.60, set at the Bobcat Classic.
Alexandra Fernandez placed 10th in the 1500m finals with a personal-best time of 4:47.11 while BreAnna Briggs followed in 11th with a time of 4:49.01.
Micah Nolan finished in eighth place in the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.57m (5-01.75) and Allison Baker placed 11th with a mark of 1.52m (4-11.75).
The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Sidney Siepert, Ebony Collins, Shanice Prendergast and Ashley Rosebrough clocked a season-best time of 47.64. Siepert, Kayla Castillo, Boutte and Prendergast also crossed the line with a season-best time in the 4x400 meter relay. The quartet clocked a time of 3:57.20.
The Islanders will find out next week who has advanced to the NCAA West Regional on May 23, in Austin, Texas.
