RESULTS
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi track and field teams competed in their final regular-season meet today at the Bobcat Classic. Patrick Kimeli led the Islanders with a personal-best time to place second in the men's 1500m at the Texas State Track and Field Complex.
"Patrick ran an excellent race in the 1500m," Head Coach Shawn Flanagan said. "The women's 1500m race also went well with personal and season-best times set. Overall, it was a good meet for us against 20 other teams."
Kimeli who is coming back from an injury during the indoor season clocked a personal-best time of 3:46.74 to place second in the men's 1500m. His time is good for second all-time in Islanders history behind Shadrack Songok's time of 3:46.24 set in 2006. Kimeli improved his personal-best mark of 3:46.79 set at the Southland Conference Championships last season. Abel Koskey crossed the line with a time of 4:06.60 while Daniel Barlow marked a time of 4:13.40 and Jacob Abrego clocked a season-best time of 4:14.74.
On the women's side, BreAnna Briggs, Regina Salinas and Cecilia Jones finished in the top 15 of the women's 1500m. Briggs placed eighth with a season-best time of 4:45.09 while Salinas finished in 11th with a personal-best time of 4:46.46 and Jones clocked a season-best mark of 4:55.53 to place 15th. Kim Ward also set a personal-best time of 4:59.04.
Shanice Prendergast and David Carrillo both had an impressive outing in the men's and women's 400m with personal-best times. Prendergast clocked a time of 57.59 while Carrillo marked a time of 48.51. Prendergast's time is third all-time while Carrillo's time is good for fourth all-time in history. William Scott clocked a personal-best time of 49.94 in his first outing in the 400m this season and Cordarius Edmondson finished with a time of 49.37.
Carrillo and Scott also clocked personal-best times in the men's 200m. Carrillo crossed the line with a time of 21.99 while Scott placed with a time of 22.83.
Freshman Ashley Mills ran a personal-best time of 2:18.60 in the women's 800m and Alexandra Fernandez finished with a time of 2:21.00. Wesley McGhee clocked a time of 1:57.08 in the men's 800m.
Isabella Baptiste improved her personal-best time in the women's 100 meter hurdles. The freshman clocked a time of 15.82, improving her mark of 15.96 set at the UIW Cardinal Invitational.
Quincy Obeng marked a season-best mark of 6.64m (21' 9½") in the long jump while Michael Diamond recorded a mark of 13.12m (43' 0½") in the men's triple jump
Sidney Siepert ran a time of 1:06.31 in the women's 400 meter hurdles while Chelsey Arambula clocked a time of 1:16.00.
Micah Nolan and Allison Baker were close to improving their personal-best marks in the women's high jump. Nolan marked a clearance of 1.61m (5' 3¼") while Baker recorded a clearance of 1.56m (5' 1¼").
The Islanders will next be in action at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships on May 10-12 in Lake Charles. La.
