Golf Finishes Seventh at HBU Husky Invitational

MISSOURI CITY – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's golf team wrapped the HBU Husky Invitational with a third-round 317 to finish in seventh place at the event. For the three rounds, the Islanders posted a 948 (322-309-317) at Riverbend Country Club this week.

Sam Houston State (322-292-297—911) captured the team title with consecutive sub-300 rounds over the final 36 holes to edge Lamar (300-307-306—913). Central Arkansas took third with a 932 (319-305-308). UCA's Julia Roth took the individual title, as she delivered a three-round 220 (75-72-73).

The Islanders were led by Nikki Dunn, who posted a 77 in the final round to finish the Invitational with a 236 (81-78-77). Sophomore Vanessa Johnson also shot 236 (79-78-79) in the event, while senior Taylor Slagle (80-77-83) delivered a 240. Lindsay Biehler shot 241 (83-76-82), while Krista Fenniak had a 243 (82-82-79).

A&M – Corpus Christi has next weekend off as it prepares for the Southland Conference Women's Golf Championship, slated for April 15-17 at Frisco Lakes Golf Club in Frisco, Texas. The Islanders will be in search of their first league crown since 2009.
