Brandon Lacy Named Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Brandon Lacy has been the Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference Wednesday. Lacy earned the honor after clinching first place in the men's 800m Saturday at the Javelina Twilight Invitational.

"It's a well-deserved honor," Head Coach Shawn Flanagan said. "He's working hard this year and last season he set a very high standard as a freshman. Right now he's ahead of where he was and he's making good progress."

Lacy clocked the top time in the Southland Conference in the men's 800m run to win the event with a season-best time of 1:51.97. The Islanders own five of the top 10 times in the 800m in the Southland Conference, including four out of the top five.

Sophomore Jasmine Boutte received Southland Conference Honorable Mention honors for women's track while freshman Michael Diamond received honorable mention honors for men's field.

Lacy is the first Islander to claim a Men's Track Athlete of the Week award and second men's student-athlete to be honored by the Southland Conference. Roger De La Cruz earned the Southland Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor during the week of February 6.

Lacy and the rest of the track and field teams will be in action over the next three days when they compete at the Mt. SAC Relays and the J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight.
