Islanders Seventh After Day One of HBU Husky Invitational

MISSOURI CITY – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's golf team finished the first day of the HBU Husky Invitational in seventh place through the first two rounds at Riverbend Country Club. The Islanders (322-309—631) are seven shots back of third place heading into Tuesday's final round.

After having just one player break 80 in the opening round, four different Islanders rebounded to post 78 or better in the afternoon session, led by Lindsay Biehler's 76. A&M – Corpus Christi trimmed 13 shots off its morning score in the second round.

Lamar leads the way with a 607 (300-307), with Sam Houston State just seven strokes back at 614 (322-292). Central Arkansas (319-305—624) and host Houston Baptist (313-311—624) are tied for third in the event.

Senior Taylor Slagle (80-77—157) and sophomore Vanessa Johnson (79-78—157) lead the way for the Islanders, as the duo sits in a tie for 19th. Senior Nikki Dunn (81-78—159) and Biehler (83-76—159) are tied for 26th, while junior Krista Fenniak is in 44th (82-82—164).

The final round of the HBU Husky Invitational tees off on Tuesday. Results will be posted as they become available on GoIslanders.com and on the official Twitter site of Islanders Golf (@IslandersGolf).
