CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Track & Field program has released its schedule for the 2014 season.

It will be an exciting season for the Islanders, as they will be able to host not only one, but two collegiate track meets for the first time at the new Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium.

"We're really excited about having two home meets on our schedule for the first time ever," head coach Shawn Flanagan said. "All in all we have a lot of new student-athletes and it's going to be a bright new feature for the Islanders track program as we go into our inaugural season with our new stadium."

The two collegiate meets in the Coastal Bend will be the Country Inn and Suites Islanders Open on Saturday, March 15, followed by the Country Inn and Suites Islanders Dash on Saturday, April 5.

A&M – Corpus Christi will also play host to the Country Inn and Suites Islanders Open – High School Meet on Thursday, March 13.

The Islanders will open up the indoor season with three straight Texas meets. They will start the season at the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 11 followed by the Texas A&M Invitational later that week on Jan. 17. The teams will then go back to Houston on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 to compete in the Howie Ryan Invitational, which will also be hosted by the Cougars.

The first indoor meet of the season out of state will be on Feb. 15, as the Islanders will cross the border to Lake Charles, La., the home of Southland Conference foe McNeese State, to compete in the McNeese Invitational.

A&M – Corpus Christi will wrap up the 2014 indoor season with the Southland Conference Indoor Championships. However, the meet will not take place on the campus of any Southland schools, as the teams will travel to Birmingham, Ala., on Feb. 26-27 to participate.

After opening the outdoor season with the Country Inn and Suites Islanders Open, the teams will head up I-37 to San Antonio on March 22 for the UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational. Just a few days later, some of the Islanders will take part in the prestigious Texas Relays from March 26-29, while others will compete in the Rice Bayou Classic on March 28-29.

The second home meet of the season will take place before the Islanders go back up to San Antonio for the UIW Invitational on April 11-12. A&M – Corpus Christi will then make its longest roadtrip of the season, heading to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays, which always plays host to some of the top competition from across the country.

The Islanders will not have to travel nearly as far for its final two regular-season meets of the year, as they will head to Waco, Texas, on April 26 for the Michael Johnson Classic hosted by Baylor, before heading back to Houston once again for the Rice Twilight meet on April 26.

The teams will then travel to the home of Central Arkansas, as the 2014 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships will be in Conway, Ark., on May 9-11.
