RESULTS
LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's and women's track and field teams put together a strong outing Friday at the Cowboy Indoor Invitational, hosted by McNeese State. The Islanders had five third-place finishes while Jasmine Boutte led the way with a second-place finish in the women's one mile at the McNeese State Recreation Complex.
"Overall it was a pretty good day and we made some solid advances," Head Coach Shawn Flanagan said. "We had a few bumps, but overall we are making progress."
Boutte led the women's one mile with a time of 5:17.32 and freshman Ashley Mills followed in third place with a time of 5:36.33. Kim Ward also finished in the top 10 in ninth place. On the men's side, Abel Koskey clocked a third-place finish after winning his heat and Brandon Lacy followed in fourth place.
The Islanders men's team clocked personal-best times in the 3k. Leading the way was Philipp Baar in third place with a time of 8:34.99 and Christoph Hintz clocked an eighth-place finish with a time of 8:48.83. Paul Hansel followed in ninth place while Jacob Abrego finished in 12th and Angel Banda placed 14th.
Freshman Regina Salinas had a solid performance in the women's 3k, finishing in fourth place with a time of 10:50.78. Vanessa Galindo placed right behind Salinas in fifth place with a time of 10:54.62. Freshman Samantha Hardin crossed the line in seventh place while Kayla Fischer (12th) and Kim Ward (14th) rounded out the competition.
Cordarius Edmondson powered the men in the 600m with a time of 1:26.89 to place third while Wesley McGhee placed eighth and William Scott finished in 10th.
Bryce Johnston won his heat in the men's 800m and finished fourth overall with a time of 2:07.07. On the women's side, Teresa Tauriello clocked a third-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:35.65 and Chelsey Arambula finished in seventh with a time of 2:35.84. Freshman Allison Baker followed in ninth place while Ashley Mills finished in 11th and Abigal Gennero placed 13th.
Isabella Baptiste advanced to the finals of the women's 55m hurdles with a time of 10.85 in her first time competing in the event. In the finals, Baptiste improved her time with a mark of 9.85 to finish in 11th place.
"We have a couple weeks to train before we compete back at Texas Tech," Flanagan added.
The Islanders will wrap the regular indoor season on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas.
