Top Moment #4: Hameed Ali Beats Buzzer to Clinch Road Game Over SHSU
Freshman Hameed Ali had the opportunity at a second chance. After missing a buzzer beater in December, Ali proved he was more than capable of being a clutch shooter. On Jan. 21, he rose to the occasion, helping the Islanders overcome a 16-point second-half deficit to emerge victorious over Sam Houston State. Ali gave nothing short of a spectacular play to help the Islanders knock off the Bearkats 50-49 in the final seconds.
The Hayward, Calif. native took a jumper from the far left corner with 0.3 seconds left on the clock to sink the two points needed to secure the win.
It marked the second game in a row that the Islanders had a massive comeback, as A&M - Corpus Christi came from 25 down to tie UT Arlington on Jan. 18, but the Islanders wound up on the wrong end of a 77-73 score. This time, Ali, whose attempt at a game winner against South Alabama on Dec. 15 was just off the mark, gave the Islanders the one-point win and their first victory in Huntsville since 2007.
