CORPUS CHRISTI – Jeramie Marek of Texas A&M - Corpus Christi baseball has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Marek earned the award following his performance last week in the Islanders final regular-season series.
Marek had the best week of his career, hitting .778 in a three-game series against UT Arlington to end the 2012 regular season. Marek had multiple hits in each game, going 2-for-3 in game one, 2-for-2 in the second, and 3-for-4 in the final game of the series. He drew a walk in each game and did not strike out in the series. Marek drove in one run on Thursday, and had two RBIs in the Saturday finale against the Mavs.
Marek and the Islanders baseball team will take on Southland Conference Champion Sam Houston State Wednesday in the first round of the tournament. The two teams play at noon at Bobcat Ballpark on the campus of Texas State.
