Son Named Pepsi GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week

CORPUS CHRISTI – Kassandrea Son of the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's track and field team has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Son earned the honor following her historic performance at the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend.

Son had an impressive weekend at the Championships, competing in six events. The fifth-year senior won the long jump title with a season-best distance of 6.34m (20-09.75) to become the fourth student-athlete in Southland Conference history to win four titles in one event in her career. She was the first Islander and first long jumper in meet history to accomplish that feat. Her mark earned the Islanders 10 points and was just shy of her school record jump of 6.35m (20'10") set back in 2008.

She also placed fourth in the triple jump after posting a personal-best jump of 12.54m (41-01.75). Son teamed up in the 4x100 meter relay to run the second leg and place seventh with a time of 45.83, which is the second fastest time in school history.
