WALNUT, Calif. – The Islanders sent four members of the men's team to the 54th annual Mt. SAC Relays to compete on Thursday and Friday at the Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio College.
Freshman
Philipp Baar placed fourth in section 11 of the men's 1500m with a personal-best time of 3:54.23 to move into fifth place in the Islanders records. His time also meets the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships qualifying mark and improves his previous mark of 3:57.07 set at the Texas Relays in March.
Junior
Daniel Barlow clocked a time of 9:36.40 in section C of the men's 3000m steeplechase to meet the Southland Conference qualifying standard.
"Philipp qualified and had a lifetime-best performance," Director of Track and Field
Shawn Flanagan said. "He improved almost a whole lap. We will make adjustments and we have three weeks before the conference championships. We hope to have good performances tomorrow and Saturday at Rice."
Tomorrow junior
Patrick Kimeli will look to continue his success from last year's Mt. SAC Relays and will look to qualify for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships in the 5000m. The junior finished strong last season in the men's 5000m with a late push in the final 800m to move from 10th to fourth. He clocked a personal-best time of 14:09.71, which places second all-time in the Islanders records.
Freshman
Valentinas Rudys is also set to compete tomorrow in the 800m. The freshman recorded a season-best time of 1:52.11 at the Victor Lopez Classic in March. He will look to improve his time and move up from his fourth spot in the Southland Conference Outdoor Performance List.
Rudys is slated to run the 800m at 2:50 p.m. PT while Kimeli will run the 5000m at 10:15 p.m. PT.
On Saturday, the Islanders will be competing in the ninth annual J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight meet on the campus of Rice University at Holloway Track and Ley Field. Both teams will be looking to qualify more Islanders to the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
