CORPUS CHRISTI – Santiago Ruiz of Texas A&M - Corpus Christi baseball has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Ruiz earned the award following his walk-off single against Texas State.
Ruiz led the Islanders to victory on Saturday against Texas State with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give his team a walk-off 4-3 victory over the Bobcats in the series finale. For the weekend, he hit .400 with two RBI while starting all three games. He picked up a hit in each game, with the final one being the biggest of the series for the Islanders.
The Islanders baseball team will take on the No. 23 Texas Longhorns today at 6 p.m. in Austin. Fans can watch the game on the Longhorn Network.
