Islanders 15th Through First Day of UALR Golf Classic

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi golf team sits in 15th place after a disappointing first day of the UALR Women's Golf Classic, hosted by Arkansas-Little Rock. The Islanders cut seven strokes off their first round score in the second round, but posted a 617 (312-305) for the first 36 holes to sit seven strokes out of the top 10.

Freshman Vanessa Johnson (Corpus Christi/Carroll) leads the way for the Islanders, as she sits in a tie for 24th with a 151 (78-73). Sophomore Nikki Dunn posted a 153 (73-80) to sit in a tie for 38th, while Krista Fenniak (80-75—155) also rallied in the second round to sit 51st. Taylor Slagle (81-79—160) and Ryann White (83-78—161) round out the scoring for the Islanders.

Oral Roberts is the team leader through the first 36 holes, after shooting a 596 (295-301) on the first day. Crystal Reeves (73-70—143) also leads the individuals at the competition for ORU. Tulsa (297-303—600) and Louisiana Monroe (300-300—600) are tied for second, while host UALR (300-301—601) and Middle Tennessee State (299-302—601) are tied for fourth. Central Arkansas, the lone other Southland team in the event, sits in 17th, five shots back of the Islanders with a 622 (304-318).

In the first round, the Islanders struggled, posting a 312 for the opening 18 holes to sit in a tie for 15th. Dunn led the way with a 73, shooting 37-36, to sit in a tie for 10th through the first round. Johnson was the only other player to break 80 for A&M – Corpus Christi, shooting a 78 (38-40).
