CORPUS CHRISTI – Brandi Huff of the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's track and field teams has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Huff earned the award following her performance on Saturday at the IBC Bank Cactus Cup in Kingsville.
Huff had a record-breaking day in her first outdoor meet of the season and qualified for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships in all three of the events she competed in. Huff broke the school record in the shot put and the javelin, while finishing second in the high jump to help the women's team clinch its third straight Cactus Cup title.
The Rockport-Fulton native placed first in the shot put with a distance of 13.69m (44-11.00) and in the javelin with a throw of 40.44m (132-08). She came in second place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.63m (5-04.25) in her first track meet since returning from competing with the Islanders women's basketball team.
