DALLAS – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team was unable to find its offensive rhythm on Friday night, falling by a 5-1 final against Dallas Baptist in the middle game of the series. The two teams will play a third and final game on Saturday afternoon before heading across the Metroplex for a night game against UT Arlington.
The Islanders move to 6-4 on the season with the setback, while the Patriots evened their record to 5-5 on the year. Tim Keller was tagged with the hard-luck loss, giving up just two runs in six innings, but moving to 0-2 on the season.
In a game much different than the night before, the two teams were locked into a pitcher's duel, with the score being within one run for most of the night.
DBU struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the second on two hits for the early lead. The Patriots then added a single run off of Keller in the bottom of the sixth to extend the advantage to 2-0.
In the top of the seventh, the Islanders were able to get on the board, scoring a single run to cut the deficit in half. Kyle Danford led things off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a Jonathan Gonzales walk, Jordan Lee came on to pinch run. Marc Damon followed with an RBI-single to plate Danford, but both runners left on base were thrown out on the play to end the inning.
DBU added three runs off of reliever Jake Dziubczynski in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach, with the Islanders unable to get any more runs in the final two innings for the 5-1 final. Tanner Green came on to pitch the final 1.1 innings, giving up just one hit and no runs in relief.
The two teams will play the final of the three game series at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the Islanders then traveling to play UT Arlington in a 7 p.m. game on Saturday night.
