CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M - Corpus Christi baseball player Adam Hoelscher has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Hoelscher earned the award following his season-opening victory on the mound.
Hoelscher took the mound in the opening game of the year, pitching a complete game shutout against Nebraska Omaha to give his team a season-opening victory. He did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and it was the first complete game of Hoelscher's career. The junior from local Calallen HS surrendered just five hits and two walks while striking out seven UNO batters to set the tone for the weekend.
The Islanders finished the series against UNO with a 3-1 record, playing doubleheaders both Saturday and Sunday.
Hoelscher and the rest of the baseball team will travel to Houston to take on the Cougars in the first road game of the year tonight at 6:30 p.m.
