Natchitoches, La. - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi track and
field teams wrapped up the Southland Conference Championships
hosted by Northwestern State University on Sunday. Patrick Kimeli
and Ernestine Cray reached the podium on day three.
Kimeli won the 1500m run with a personal best time of 3:48.41
just in front of the second and third place finishers from Lamar
Tom and Joe Wade who crossed the finish line at 3:49.00 and
3:49.47. He also added a sixth place finish in the 5000m run with a
time of 15:04.64 just in front of teammate Ari Perez at 15:04.86
who finished in seventh place.
Cray finished second in the women's triple jump with a school
record mark of 12.87m which was just behind Ambra McCuin from Sam
Houston State's winning leap of 13.02m. She also finished as the
high point scorer from all freshman competing this weekend.
In the women's 5000m Julia Sambu finished in fifth place with a
time of 17:44.02. Kristine Torres was 10th at 18:04.63, Caitlin
Arumbula 11th 18:06.30 and also finishing in the top 15 was
Danielle Higgins with a time of 18:13.41 good for 13th place.
"Patrick was outstanding today in the 1500 running a personal
best, Ernestine also was great today breaking the school record in
the triple jump and being the high point scorer for all freshman,"
said director of track and field Shawn Flanagan "We're going to
build on what went right and fix what went wrong this weekend as we
move forward."
