CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's basketball player Chris Hawkins-Mast has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Hawkins-Mast earned the award following his performance last week.
The Islanders' lone senior had a strong week after exams, averaging 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the team's two games.
Against West Virginia, Hawkins-Mast scored a career-high 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting and an 8-of-10 performance at the line to go along with five boards. In the South Alabama game, the Washington, D.C., native scored 15 points and added eight rebounds and three assists.
On the season, he has five games in double figures and is averaging 11.9 points per contest.
Hawkins-Mast and the men's basketball will be in action this Thursday, Dec. 22, and Friday, Dec. 23, at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. The team faces Bethune-Cookman on Thursday at 2 p.m., with a game against either Kennesaw State or Tennessee Tech rounding out the event on Friday.
